Mmatedu Bicycle Project

Gearvest (Pty) Ltd have gifted Mmatedu Secondary School with gifted 57 bicycles on 7 August 2025 as part of their CSI project focus.

The bicycles will provide learners with a faster, more reliable means of travelling between home and school, giving them more time to focus on their studies.

Gearvest CEO Len Enslin highlighted the broader community value of such initiatives: “JCB Gearvest sees its CSI expenditure as an opportunity to foster and build lasting relationships within the Mogalakwena community. This project illustrates how we practically engage on the ground level to make a difference in people’s lives on a daily basis.”

The initiative forms part of the companies’ corporate social investment (CSI) commitments, supported by Valterra Platinum’s supplier social key performance indicators (KPIs).

The selection of bicycles and schools was made in consultation with the Department of Education (DOE). Schools in the quantile three category, where no school fees are paid – were prioritised.

Harvest Floor NPC served as the implementing partner.Harvest Floor chief executive officer (CEO) Lorna Enslin said: “The joy on the learners’ faces, having mobility to get from the school to their home, was astonishing to witness. These bicycles will enable learners to spend less time walking from their houses to the school, meaning they can spend more time on their studies. This initiative encourages learners to perform academically in Grade 12, with the incentive of keeping the bicycle at the end of the year.”

Mapela education circuit manager Benjamin Malapile said: “We appreciate the donation in the form of bicycles. I hope it will motivate and enhance performance because the time to school will be reduced by 75%, which means learners will arrive at school earlier to work.”
